From Feb 13 to 18 2010 Street Spirits provided a theatre workshop to the “Speak and be Heard” project in the community of Mission. The workshop trained a group of people in theatre technique. With information gathered through a number of sources including online commentary and direct interviews on the street, the workshop participants devised a forum theatre performance that addressed community concerns regarding drug use, gang involvement and health care issues. The performance at the Clarke Theatre involved a community audience ingenerating solutions to the problems that the play presented.

On February 10, 2010 Street Spirits travelled to Valemount to perform at the high school there. The trip was eventful. Our van broke down on the way which delayed us but we were able to make it there in time for the show. The play we presented was about relationships and drug use. Key elements that the audience identified as a concern were the use of drugs and alcohol as part of sexual assault and age inappropriate relationships. There were many solid interventions from the audience. Taking part in the event were; Elise, John, Jay, Breanna and Holly.

On February 5 2010 Street Spirits provided an interactive performance at John McInnis Secondary. The presentation involved the audience of about 100 students in addressing issues related to substance use and violence. Audience response was active and involved.

On February 3rd Street Spirits took part in an event hosted by the Eating Disorders clinicto recognize National Eating Disorders Awareness Week. The event included art displays and informational material. Our members created a performance about the pressures on young people to conform to an unrealistic body image. We also led the audience in a role drama process to identify potential ways to deal with issues related to body image. Taking part in the event for Street Spirits were Ashley, Elise, John, Desiree, Brianna, Kayla and Nissa.

On January 13, 2010 Street Spirits provided two performances of a play about fighting among students and the pressure to watch fights. The play was complex and layered including issues of relationships, peer pressure, prejudice and substance use. Response from the audience was good with many interventions and some good discussion between audience members and our cast. Taking part in the creation and performance of the piece were Elise, Mike, Ashley, Kaiser and Mary. Audience was about 180 people for the two shows.

On Nov 30, 2009 we resented a performance of an original forum theatre play about bullying and cyber bullying. We had a large audience ove approximately 180 students and staff. Participation was positive with many suggestions and strategies for dealing with bullying and on-line intimidation. Our crew included Andrew, Mike, Stephen, Ashley, Mary and Shayla.

On Nov. 17, 2009 Street Spirits provided a performance about addictions in cooperation with the Social work program at CNC. Our actors created a play about drug use and the consequences for those involved and for family members of those involved.

From November 14 to 19 we provided a theatre workshop at Ferndale Correctional Centre in Mission. Participants took part in the workshop and created a performance about environmental issues for a conference in Restortative Justice held at the institution.
